HAIR CARE THROUGH AYURVEDA

Updated: May 30, 2022

The “glow of your skin and that shine” of your Hair are the visible reflections of your inner health. They mark your mental as well as Physical well being. They can quote your level of confidence, demanding looks and attitude. So regular skincare and hair care routines are very much important to preserve and enrich their health to the best.

Nurturing your hair and scalp through Ayurveda

Same as our body needs constant attention via fitness and nutrition to stay healthy, our hair too demands constant care and essential nutrients to stay thick ,black and healthy. Hair loss, early greying and frizzy hair are the major hair problems prevalent in today's community. The fast life and changing lifestyle has worsened these issues.

The increasing use of Hair care devices and the wrong way of self experimenting with these devices to try out different hair styling has exponentially increased the problems in a large group of the society. The high temperature variations of these devices can cause the hair to lose its moisture and texture and can leave the hair frizzy and dry and eventually if not taken care at the right time can lead to permanent hair damages like premature greying, breaks and splittings of the hair.

But these cons of hair styling need not stop you from using these devices and grooming your hair as per your needs and wishes… It's just a matter of right touch of care and nourishment which need to be practised after such usage to replenish the nourishment lost due to temperature and dehydration. So its important to have a right awareness among the public as to how to condition and nurture the hair in a regular manner to preserve the colour, shine and smoothness of the strands.

Tips on Hair Care Routine

If you are a person who loves experimenting with your hair….. Here are a few tips which you can closely stick on to and prevent yourself from damaging your beautiful strands..

Oil your Hair

One of the most ignored practices of our current lifestyle is oiling your hair. Oil and wash your hair regularly at fixed intervals in a week. You can use coconut oil, almond oil, olive oil or any oil of your choice ( after a proper consultation with an Ayurveda Doctor) in accordance with the nature of your hair. Regular oiling strengthens and hydrates the hair giving a lustrous glow to the strands. It nourishes and protects the hair from damages. It prevents dryness of the scalp and prevents dandruff. Oil seeps into the hair roots and stimulates the hair roots to promote stronger and healthier hair growth.

Oiling should be practised at regular intervals in required quantities only as per the thickness of your hair. Over oiling can block the hair follicles and can cause the hair strands to flock together giving an awkward appearance. Further too much oil on the scalp can lower the pH of the scalp which can initiate hair fall. So it is very important to optimise oiling the hair

Make sure you oil massage ½ an hour before bath and during the bath, wash the oil off the scalp with a mild herbal shampoo before you step out to work.

Hair Mask

Practice putting a herbal hair mask (after proper consultation with an Ayurveda Physician) with home-available herbal ingredients as per the condition of your hair and scalp, at least once in a week or once in two weeks to give an added nutrition to the hair. This enlivens the hair as well as hair follicles which must have gone sluggish or clogged by the hot sun rays. It is one of the best ways to boost the health of your hair as well as the scalp.

Hair serum and Hair creams

As per the thickness and length of the hair, you can opt for either of them- Hair serum/ Hair cream. It is recommended to those who are reluctant in using hair oils, hair oils can be substituted with Hair serum for women and Hair creams for men. They act miracles on the hair especially in protecting the hair from the damages caused by the devices for hair styling and grooming. It protects the strands and roots from the effects of extreme temperature and also acts as a protective coating from dust and sun rays. Both these give best results when used in damp hair. Apply it before using any hair styling devices.
